A blog about crocheting during our latest road trip
Jul 22, 2024
My normal crochet spot is at a table in my office; the table is particularly nice when I’m working on my giant blanket and don’t want to hold it all in my lap. I love crocheting along with a good podcast or audiobook. But this past weekend, we went on a long road trip to Charleston to celebrate my oldest sister-in-law’s 40th birthday and I found that I also enjoyed crocheting in the car. Luckily, I don’t get carsick, otherwise this would not have gone well 😅
Thursday night, I had prepared a couple granny squares in a 2x2 pattern. On the drive down (on Friday morning), I stitched the sides and handle. This was my first ever attached handle. In retrospect, I wish I would have secured it a little bit more, but I do like the way it looked. I absolutely abhor Atlanta traffic, so this was a good distraction, for sure. I crocheted for a couple hours and then it was finished.
Friday evening, my other sister-in-law and I went to Joann’s and I stocked up on more yarn so that I would have a Return Trip Project. I grabbed several skeins of Wool Ease Yarn with the idea to make a beanie/winter hat.
I ended up starting a few rows on Saturday evening, but did complete most of the hat on the return ride home, as planned. I didn’t finish all of it, but it was definitely a worthwhile road trip activity.
Side bar: I grabbed a skein of yarn, decided I didn’t like it enough to buy it, so when I went to put it back where I found it, I noticed the tag on the shelf said “Hudson” (the color name is actually Hudson Bay) - I immediately checked the label on the skein and it wasn’t Hudson (someone had just put it in the wrong spot), but the Hudson Bay yarn is lovely and I plan to make a hat for Hudson with it ❤️
Cooking, Crocheting, Running: all these things started out as Hard Things. But they’re becoming less hard because of consistent practice and finding enjoyment in them.
