Life Lately: October 2024

I’ve attempted to make a cardigan before; it did not go well (Read about that here). But now, I’m trying a different one. This one is a “flat construction”, so I’ll basically create one gigantic garment with (hopefully) some pretty minimal sewing/seam work.

The fall weather may be slowly coming in, but we are still living it up with our summer bubble machine 🫧

I’ve always known that meal planning can save both time and money (but in this economy, I’m not so sure about that last one……). Outside of competition prep back in-the-day, meal planning is just not a habit I’ve been consistent with. When I do it, I love it (I love knowing that I know what I’m going to eat), but it was something that I, honestly, thought: “I don’t have time for”.

But over the last several months, I noticed my stress level be really high. The mental load of work things with mom and wife things was so high. The conversation EVERY night of “What’s for dinner” became unmanageable from a mental load perspective. I hated getting to 6PM and stressing about figuring out what we had to cook (if anything) and I felt guilty eating takeout or fast food every night (because, let’s be real - eating out is hella expensive).

So back in September, I tried making a meal plan, buying groceries ahead of time, and cooking at home a few nights a week. And I’ve loved it! The mental burden has been lifted! I’d say we have a 95% success rate - there have been a few times where I forgot to thaw something or just didn’t feel like cooking. But the feeling of knowing what’s for dinner has been a game changer for the entire family.

Now that the temps are starting to cool, I’ve gotten back into running. Hoping to run a 5K in November 🤞
