I decided to make a chunky granny square blanket for myself

Chunky Fall Blanket
Reborn
This blanket kind of found me. After abandoning a blanket that I didn’t love, I had a ton of blanket yarn in my stash. I came across this chunky fall blanket on Youtube and realized I wanted to do chunky granny squares and make something similar!
I chose colors slightly different than the pattern, but I wanted a Cozy Fall Vibe. It took me FOREVER to finally settle on the tan color. I started out with a bright cream, but it was too bright. This was the closest “brown” shade that I could find in-person. I got varied opinions from a few people, but in the end, I feel like the brown (Baby Sand) was the one I felt the best about.
One thing I love about granny squares (and especially with blanket yarn), is that they get big really quickly! These are standard 4 round granny squares and they’re so big! I didn’t have to make that many to fit the pattern (insert happy dance)
Hard Times
Once the granny squares were complete (yay!), the next step was the join. The video I was following, unfortunately, did not prepare me for how HARD it was going to be. The designer just said “Use an invisible join to attach the squares”, so on my quest of trying to understand how to do it, I broke a lot of yarn 😭 and for some reason, my joins don’t look as “perfect” as in the video, which is frustrating. I don’t know if it’s the blanket yarn thickness and a tendency to break, but mannnn it was a struggle.
Finished Project
I finished with a single crochet border and I am super pleased with how it turned out. It fits the “fall cozy” vibes I was going for!
