I made another crochet bag. This time using the moss stitch and thermal stitch. I love how this one turned out.

Moss Crossbody Bag
After finishing the Teal Clutch: The Prototype, I immediately started working on a larger bag. I really love crossbody bags (hands-free carrying, ftw!). Something I am excited about with learning this is being able to make my own bags at the size that I need. I’m very picky about handbags and their size and their purpose, so I made this one and I’m obsessed - it’s a great size (for me).
I found that the chunky yarn along with the moss stitch created a very sturdy-feeling bag. Adding a fabric liner gave it a smidge more structure as well. Something I’ve read/heard about with crochet bags (especially those used for carrying things) is that the yarn will tend to sag and make the bag droop. Liners help and I imagine using a thicker yarn will provide more structure as well. The strap was done using a thermal stitch, which took me FOREVER to pick up - it’s a tricky one, for sure. But there is also no doubt in my mind that it’s durable and will hold up well over time.
This is my primary handbag at the moment, so if you happen to see it in the wild, I would love a compliment 😉😂
Learnings:
Patience: Learning the thermal stitch was so tough; the way to turn/hold the yarn and make sure I was inserting the hook in the correct places was so frustrating. I stopped, unravelled, and started over so many times and it was discouraging. I’m also convinced that I got it right by accident and my prediction in the future is that I’ll have to stop and start over multiple times again.
The strap is a couple inches too long. I had a measurement in my head and “just in case”, I kept stitching, but I should have gone with my gut.
When I initially did the bag, I thought of adding a granny square triangle as the foldover part (new skill alert), but I actually hated the way it looked, so I continued the Moss Stitch until I was happy with the length. I made the right choice.
Thermal Stitch: I had to watch SO many videos. Here are a few of the ones that I found most helpful - these were probably the last two I watched when it finally “clicked”
